The first part of this year will see Sutton CVS working with the voluntary and community sector to strengthen our representation arrangements. We have a wealth of experience and knowledge that we can use to support local communities to access the best opportunities and services to enhance their quality of life and we do this partly by providing a ‘voice’ on behalf of local people at the range of decision making fora across the Borough.

This includes: Children’s Trust; Health and Wellbeing Board; Local Safeguarding Childrens Board; Sutton Safeguarding Adults Board; Safer Sutton Partnership; Domestic Violence Strategic and Transformation Boards; Sutton Economic Taskforce; Social Prescribing Board; and the Borough Resilience Forum – to name but a few! So if you attend any of the sectors networks then please think about whether you want to represent the sector and make sure you register an interest with me.

The year also started with a meeting of the Infrastructure Capacity Building and Infrastructure Fund Commissioning Project Board meeting. This fund, which contributes the core costs to SCVS and Volunteer Centre Sutton, as well as specific funding to Age UK Sutton, Sutton Carers Centre, Citizens Advice Sutton and BioRegional to deliver forums and training activity, will be recommissioned from April 2019.A project board has been established to enable the recommissioning to be co-produced by the sector and Sutton Council. Sutton Together will be the voluntary and community sector interface during the recommissioning process but there will be various opportunities for the voluntary and community sector to have their voices heard. Watch this space!

Finally, for now, we are moving at a pace to complete the intelligence gathering stage for The Fairness Commission and Sutton CVS is working with Volunteer Centre Sutton and the Young Commissioners to plan an event for young people to hear from them about their experiences of living in Sutton and what support they need to have the best opportunities in life. The event is planned for early March.

As always if you want to find out more about any other above or more generally about the work of Sutton CVS then please get in touch.

Here is to a productive, challenging and exciting 2018!

For those people who know me or who have worked with me then they will know that fighting for equality is at the core of who I am and what I do and I have had the privilege to work with great partners in Sutton to set up the Sutton Fairness Commission. The partners include colleagues from the voluntary sector, Sutton Council, Sutton Police and Fire Service, Sutton CCG, Sutton Housing Partnership and Clarion Housing and a couple of local residents.

The Commissioners recognise that the future of Sutton lies in the hands of children and young people and so it is working, through dialogue with a range of stakeholders and communities, to develop a vision of what life should be like for a 13 year old in Sutton in 2030.

It would be great if you also could be part of those conversations. We are holding an event where you can talk to Commissioners on the 14th December at 3.00-6.00pm.

If you would like to find out more or book on the event then please click on the link. I look forward to working with you to make Sutton the best place it can be for children and young people.
